Withstanding the Test of TimeLatest News

The local business community gathered at Resorts World Sentosa on 21 November for the annual black-tie event, the Enterprise 50 (E50) Awards. The E50 Awards is a mark of excellence in the business industry and MDIS was very proud and honoured to have clinched 4th place among 50 top companies in Singapore. This year, the Award presentation dinner was graced by Minister for Finance, Mr Heng Swee Keat.

The E50 award is a testament of MDIS’ continual effort in staying productive and relevant since its founding 61 years ago. As the only Private Education Institution to receive the award, MDIS heritage brand has
stood the test of time to achieve numerous development milestones, both locally and globally.

Epitomising this year’s 50 theme, “Innovate, Grow & Succeed: Staying competitive in today’s economy” is extra significant to MDIS. This award has proven that being a heritage brand does not equate to the Institute being out-of-touch. MDIS possesses quality processes and a positive mind set to stay relevant for continued growth and success in Singapore and globally.

The strong foundation, strengths and core competencies, which MDIS has established, have given the Institute a distinctive place and a prominent role in Singapore’s private education sector. Its pillars of growth has steered the Institute towards sustained progress and success. These include i) Quality academic programmes with industryrelevance; ii) Extensive global university and industry partnerships; iii) Transnational education with multi-city experiences; and iv) Robust overseas growth and expansion. On the financial front, its strong cash position is a result of its adoption of a prudent strategy in liquidity management.

“MDIS has been offering quality programmes in partnership with global universities for more than 60 years now. We are proud to be the trusted education partner in Singapore and the region, with more than 12,000 students in our campuses in Singapore, Malaysia, India and Uzbekistan,” shared Dr R. Theyvendran, MDIS Secretary-General.

“We remain on the pulse of the industry, with programmes that meet tomorrow’s business needs. Going forward, we are actively expanding into ASEAN and I am confident of MDIS’ position as a global provider of academic programmes,” added Dr R . Theyvendran.

“Our journey has not been all smooth sailing; we have been tested but we have risen to the challenge and continue to champion quality and innovation to achieve success. By bringing a focus to skills development, future programmes, and industry partnerships, we are laying the ground for our students to acquire future-ready skills for the evolving industry. Going forward, we are actively expanding into ASEAN and I am confident of MDIS’ position as a global provider of academic programmes.”

Regional Vision and Growth
MDIS’ foresight in establishing MDIS Tashkent in 2008 is today bearing fruit. MDIS Tashkent is proud to be the first Higher Education Institution in the Republic of Uzbekistan to receive the international ISO 9001:2008 quality certification. MDIS Tashkent is also running at full capacity and in a profitable position.

Similarly, MDIS Malaysia and MDIS VELS India were strategically planned to expand the Institute’s presence overseas and sustain its growth in the region.

With these international campuses, MDIS has added affirmation that its processes, business model and “edupreneurial” focus are on the right track. It is seeking growth through internationalisation and pushing forward in acquiring new programmes to meet future industry needs and the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework. Moving forward, efforts in forging fruitful industry partnerships for students to gain practical experience or employment opportunities will also be strengthened.
