International Foundation Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality ManagementAwarded by: MDIS

Programme Aims and Objectives

This programme is designed for individuals who aspire to begin a career in the field of travel, tourism and hospitality management or would like to assume greater responsibilities in one of the many ancillary service industries but lack the professional training and wish to have their skills formally recognised. Participants will acquire an integrated knowledge of the best industry practices and the operations of the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industries.

This programme includes field trips and hands-on practicum. The campus has a Hospitality Training Centre (Tropical Breeze) in a hotel setting which makes learning more realistic for the participants.

Why MDIS School of Tourism and Hospitality

The MDIS School of Tourism and Hospitality prides itself on training today’s interns, for tomorrow’s practitioners. Partnering the University of Sunderland (UK) which is currently ranked 2nd in The Guardian University Guide 2019: League Table for Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism, the School offers programme specialisations in tourism, hospitality, and events management delivered by an experienced and qualified academic faculty.

A firm believer in grooming leading professionals of the future through active learning approaches, MDIS invested in a 1,400 sq ft hospitality training facility called ‘Tropical Breeze’ to equip students with current knowledge and skills in preparation for their future careers. Tropical Breeze offers students the opportunity to adopt specific skillsets from the latest Opera Property Management System used commonly in Front Office Operations, well-equipped bar and barista facilities and a mock-up guest room for housekeeping. Another platform to prepare them for the real-world is offered at the institution-owned café, Brew & Bites.  Here, students are presented the opportunity to prepare light meals and beverages and develop their communication skills by engaging customers directly.

The School’s latest hospitality facilities, MDIS Bakery and Culinary Studio, were officially launched by Mr Gary Maclean, the winner of BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals 2016 and Senior Chef Lecturer, City of Glasgow College (UK). The facilities are about 1,000 sq ft and equipped with eight cooking stations and two combi ovens. The School hosts various culinary and bakery workshops which compliment the students learning journey and accessible by the public as well. Over and above these, the School also organises regular industry visits and invites prominent industry speakers to enrich students’ learning experiences.

Apart from an active and industry relevant curriculum, students are also required to complete a 6-month internship at leading hotels, resorts, and attractions locally or overseas to ensure a real-world understanding of the complexities and demands of the hospitality and tourism sector.

Its academic rigour, strong practicum training, and internship placements indubitably develops extensive industry knowledge and critical professional competencies in positioning its graduates for long-term success.
