Programme Objectives

This course provides a broad understanding of the physiology of the body’s major systems as well as human health and disease. This programme enables you to study the cause, diagnosis and treatment of human disease from a multidisciplinary and evidence-based perspective, which will help you with a career in a variety of healthcare and life science settings.

The BSc (Hons) in Health Sciences has been specifically designed for those with an interest in health-related multidisciplinary and evidence-based perspectives while developing the essential transferable skills enhancing the student’s employability in a wide variety of health care and life science settings and its contribution to solving global challenges facing humanity. The aim of the course is to prepare graduates for a broad range of careers within industrial, commercial, health management, government and environmental settings and postgraduate study.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be of age 17 and above, and meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

For Year 1 entry

International Foundation Diploma in Biomedical Sciences awarded by MDIS

OR

GCE 'A' level, with a minimum of grade C from one relevant science stream subjects

OR

Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutes (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education

For Year 2 entry

Relevant polytechnic diplomas in Science-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course)

OR

Relevant diploma level qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognized Higher Education providers in Science-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education

English Language Requirements

The applicant is required to achieve one of the following:

C6 in English at GCE 'O' Level

IELTS 6.0 (with no elements below 5.5)

MDIS Professional Certificate in English

The study involving a broad understanding of the physiology of the body’s major systems as well as human health and disease. Approaching the cause, diagnosis and treatment of human disease from a multi-disciplinary and evidence-based perspective, which will help with establishing a career in a variety of healthcare and life science settings.

The BSc (Hons) Health Sciences partnered with the Teesside University is a comprehensive programme building upon three core discipline-based themes: human anatomy and physiology, human biology and disease, and healthcare systems and technologies, and explore how humans change over the lifespan, adapt to external stressors, and how lifestyle can have an impact on health.

Alongside this, the degree programme develops skills for employability including good laboratory practice, understand health and safety policies, be cognizant of quality assurance and patient care. The student will also develop transferrable skills including verbal and poster presentations, scientific report writing, independent research and teamwork. This degree also prepares one for postgraduate study including research degrees.

The full-time and part-time programmes take 24 to 36 months to complete.

The BSc (Hons) Health Sciences degree provides a broad base of scientific knowledge and skills applicable to many occupations and potential career opportunities. Graduate jobs include roles related to scientific and medical research, clinical and analytical laboratory set up. Potential employers include health service organisations, government, local authorities, industry, and charitable and international organisations. The time spent on developing essential interpersonal and valuable transferable skills throughout the degree through a diverse range of activities (group work, presentation, interview, critical thinking, problem solving, communication enhancing, analysis and statistics) further increases employability to a range of career opportunities and occupations including:
