Programme Objectives
BA (Hons) Fashion Product and Promotion is broken down into the following subject areas and covers each area in depth:
Fashion:
Concepts, theories and hands-on projects, event management, portfolio development, illustration, photography & styling.
Product:
Understanding the fashion design process from concept to creation, garment construction and accessories design.
Promotion:
Branding, marketing, retail concepts and consumer research.
The programme aims to:
- Provide opportunities for students to gain a systematic and coherent understanding of the various theoretical, historical, cultural and contextual dimensions impacting on design practice.
- Encourage students to combine highly specialised technical and conceptual skills to enhance their creativity.
- Promote self-reflective and meaningful approaches to learning with the specialised research skills to observe, investigate and critically evaluate information from a wide range of sources.
- Produce graduates with the appropriate range of subject-specific and professional skills necessary to pursue their chosen careers.
- Develop in students, a high level of communication skills in the presentation of creative professional work.

- Andy Sandoz is the president of the internationally influential D&AD.
Our Fashion and Textiles courses are 14th in the UK according to the Guardian University League Tables 2018 and our graduates embark on a range of exciting careers in design, brand development, fashion publishing, marketing and many other fashion-related creative industries.
Assessment Methods
Teaching is almost entirely practical and studio based, supported by lectures, seminars, tutorials, e-learning and independent learning.
Assessment is almost totally through coursework.
Graduation
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Fashion Product and Promotion from the University of Sunderland, UK. The degree will be the same as that awarded to the full-time students at the University main campus in the UK.
Career Opportunities
The main destinations for graduates are expected to be fashion-related creative industries. These include design, brand development, fashion publishing, production, design consultancies, PR and fashion retail. Some graduates may become freelance consultants or self-employed designers, or go on to further study or teacher training.

A minimum of 2 A levels or equivalent

International Foundation Diploma in Fashion Design and Marketing awarded by MDIS

International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art (STEMA) awarded by MDIS

Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in Fashion-and/or-Marketing-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education*
