The Purple Parade 2019
The Purple Parade, Singapore’s largest movement in support of the special needs community, aims to move our society towards a more inclusive community by opening our hearts to people with special needs in our community. This is the 2nd year that MDIS has participated in this meaningful event.
Over 40 MDIS student volunteers showed up in purple coloured T-shirts, which took the student designers of the MDIS School of Fashion and Design two weeks to create. They accessorised with purple balloons to represent MDIS’s participation in The Purple Parade 2019. It is worth mentioning that MDIS Angel Heart Club has been taking the lead to organise participation from students for this event since last year. The MDIS Angel Heart club comprises local and international students who are committed to doing volunteer work and spreading kindness and love to the community.
Our talented students from the MDIS Angel Heart Club DIY-ed 18 props and banners to support this event and managed to get more than 40 students to join the parade. MDIS Photography Club also sent five of their members to support the parade and ensuring professional photos were taken from the memorable event. Our student volunteers felt honoured to be part of the Purple Parade contingent’s walk through Suntec City (outdoor spaces between Tower 1 & Tower 5), in support of the event. Our international students mentioned that it was a great experience for them and that they appreciated the opportunity to take part in doing a good deed as part of MDIS.
Besides MDIS, there were more than 160 other organisations from the special needs community, corporate & community partners, institutes of higher learning, schools and government agencies that came to support the event.
